What is a Fidget?

Fidget Toys are the hot new craze! Here at The Toy Store we explore some of our favorites.

What is fidget? Currently, fidget toys and fidget are the hot new craze to hit the toy industry. According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of “fidget” is “to make a lot of small movements because you are nervous, bored, etc. : to move or act in a nervous or restless way.” Fidgeting is how you calm yourself and relax without thinking about it. You might tap your pencil on the table or click your pen. You might even bounce your legs while you sit or rock slightly in your chair; all of these things are fidgeting.

Adults have items on their desks known as stress balls, or stress relievers, these are fidgets. A fidget toy is an object that has components that can provide a person an outlet to regulate their need for movement and touch. Some of these components could be: interesting tactile composition (a squeeze or spike feature), pliability of the product, heaviness, or movement opportunities.

Fidget toys are small, discreet objects that provide a place for kids and adults to direct their energy in a more socially appropriate way while they focus on their task at hand.

Schools have started allowing students to bring fidgets to school because they are not considered toys, but tools. It gives a student who may have a harder time focusing the ability to calm and expend any unnecessary energy without causing a distraction to the rest of the class.

There are so many different types of fidget toys. Here are some of our favorites available at The Toy Store:
